Manchester Food & Drink Festival 2014

Manchester Food and Drink Festival 2014 (10)Manchester Food and Drink Festival 2014 (7)On Sunday afternoon my friends and I headed into Manchester to see what delights the Manchester Food and Drink Festival 2014 had to deliver. We had had a quick drink there on the Saturday night but had dinner plans elsewhere, so thought we’d come back the day after to make the most of it!

Manchester Food and Drink Festival 2014 (4)Manchester Food and Drink Festival 2014 (2)The festival was held in the middle of Manchester on Albert Square and was crammed full of food stalls are various types, food shops, a huge beer tent and a cider tent. The place was packed full of people making the most of the last of the summer sun. Plenty tasting some of the 100 different beers available and eating from the many stalls.

We had sampled a few of the beers and ciders the night before so had a dry one on the Sunday and chose to instead sample the food on offer! So if you’re here for health and fitness keep scrolling! If you want to take a peek at some drool worthy food stay put!

We first did a few laps of the square to see what was on offer. Chinese, Vietnamese, Mexican, pulled pork, churros, burgers, hotdogs, pizzas, macaroni cheese and Greek cuisine were just a few of those I remember! As there was plenty to choose from we decided to get a selection of cuisines and enjoy a bite of everything between us.

Fire & Slice had a prime position next to the cider tent and were busy firing pizzas in and out of their oven for hungry cider drinkers. Matt was very much in awe of the pizza oven as it’s a dream of his to have his own outside pizza oven in our garden – I don’t think it will be happening anytime soon! The pizza was fantastic – to be honest nothing beat freshly baked pizza with fresh ingredients onto – none of these suspicious looking meats you find at some takeaways! Piggie Smalls served hotdog, hotdog and more hotdogs! But not these one’s you find in a tin. Their dogs were huge and topped with a fantastic selection of toppings! Which again had fantastic names! Matt and I chose the Notorious P.I.G and our friends enjoyed the Chilli Con Kayne! I’m not usually a fan of hotdogs because of the very poor quality of meat you find in them, however these were great! Our dog was toped with bacon jam – some kind of smoky bacon delight and crispy onions – yum, yum, yum!

There were endless people walking around with tubs of gooey, cheesy mac which smelt divine! I’m wishing I had tried it after finding out that they are usually based in Camden, London – bit further afield than Manchester! Hot, crispy, doughy and tasty! The perfect way to end our street food feast!

The Manchester Food and Drink Festival was held for a week and finished on Monday night with an award ceremony to celebrate the best food and drink establishments in the area. It was a great temporary addition to the city and I hope there are more events like this soon – although my waistline will suffer a lot! In fact after all that grub we headed home and I soon laced up my trainers and headed for a run!

Did you visit the Manchester Food and Drink Festival? Have you tried any of these stalls are other events?
